Mi è venuto un dubbio leggendo l’ultimo numero del Vs speciale Imperfect English. A pagina 3 correggete il fumetto in copertina scrivendo che avrebbe dovuto dire ‘Is John there?’ A me sembra di ricordare che è corretto dire ‘Is there John?’ Sbaglio?

The correct thing to say is: “Is John there?” This is like saying “C’è John?” In other words, “Is John there (and not in another place)?” If you’re doubt about this, then simply choose the politest form and ask: “Please may I speak to John?”
