Listening to music

Someone told me that it isn’t a very good idea to learn English by listening to music (as the quality of the language is often poor). Do you agree? Also, is it better to watch a film with or without English subtitles? Best regards. Giovanni

Listening to music is a good way to learn a language. It’s enjoyable and it helps you pick up some good expressions. After all, the world learnt English with the Beatles.

As for sub-titles, it depends. Some people like to see a film first in Italian, and then in English. The sub-titles are there to help you. Later, when you feel more confident, you can watch the film without them. Many Italians have difficulty reading subtitles as they are used to watching movies dubbed in Italian. This is really terrible!
